Net Overseas Migration - 32

Since World war II, the impact of immigration on overall unemployment has been small. Without new migrants, Australia would not have grown economically as quickly as we did without immigration.

The following data summarises net overseas migration to Australia. In the five years to June 1996, net migration to Australia was 340,513 people, or about 70,000 immigrants per year. The number of new migrants to Australia is in fact falling, when compared to levels reached in the 1970's and 1980's.
